Details of the program will follow.

An overview of recent technical and scientific advances that will influence the history of childbirth will be presented by such authoritative speakers as Pr Michael Stark, from Berlin, Pr Uvnas-Moberg, from Stockholm, and one of the most renowned epigeneticists.

Dr Mario Merialdi, coordinator for maternal and perinatal health at WHO, will suggest the importance of “Global action” as a new watchword.

We cannot yet offer a list of the 30 workshops introducing an unusual diversity of topics, mostly practical.

Let us just mention a highly significant workshop, at a time when it is urgent to rediscover authentic midwifery. It will be the ‘silent knitting session’. The objective of this session, during which the use of language will be banned, will be to train midwives and doulas to avoid the most common interference in childbirth. It will be also an opportunity to realize that a repetitive task – such as knitting – is an effective way to reduce the levels of adrenaline. A woman cannot give birth if the level of stress hormones of the midwife is high. After that, discussions will be open about the necessity

to introduce weekly silent knitting sessions in all midwifery schools.
